Anti-white Aggression, Racial Paranoia, and a Racially Preoccupied Culture: Current Challenges Around Race and Mental Health (CE Credits)
This course will explore overlooked issues related to race and mental health. For example, as ideas of “colorblindness” have been upended, people are increasingly seeing themselves in racial terms; as a result, they may experience new emotional conflicts and dilemmas. As some people are increasingly told that they are victims or oppressors based on their race, it’s leading to more aggression and even paranoia. These themes will be explored in detail, with a special focus on how these issues can shape mental illness and how therapists can best respond when patients present with these concerns.
